Dozens of migrants reached Crete on a boat on Monday afternoon, while another group was found in a mountainous area of the island, state-run broadcaster ERT reported.
One of the boats was carrying 20 migrants who arrived and disembarked at Plakaki beach, near Sfakia, on the island’s southern coast. They are all adults who are expected to be sent to Athens.
Greek authorities also found about 30 men in the area of Pharos, which is located in a mountainous part of central Crete. It was not immediately clear how they ended up there. Most of the men are Egyptian, according to their statement.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard, in cooperation with municipal authorities and volunteers have also begun searching near the settlement of Ambelo, where it is estimated that approximately 15-16 more people have found shelter.
