Federal MP Steve Georganas commits $50,000 to Adelaide’s St George College

Federal Member for Adelaide, Steve Georganas, has pledged $50,000 to Adelaide’s St George College for classroom upgrades, should Labor gets elected on Saturday.

The announcement was made earlier today, after Mr Georganas and Senator Don Farrell met with St George College Principal, Peter Karamoshos.

“Many schools who are in my electorate got this funding for urgent needs. These are small projects that will assist community schools running,” Mr Georganas told The Greek Herald.

In April, at the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools annual conference, opposition education spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek announced a Labor plan to give every community language school in the country a $30,000 funding boost.

Plibersek said the funding would benefit about 780 language schools already teaching 105,000 students across Australia, allowing them to expand their operations and upskill staff.

“This $15 million commitment will allow community language schools to expand their programs to preschoolers, improve teacher training, and upgrade classroom resources,” she said.

Mr Georganas said that with Labor’s plan, ethnic community schools in South Australia, including Greek afternoon schools, will receive on an average $10,000.

“Community languages, as each generation goes by, become more important,” Mr Georganas said.

Recently, the Federal MP for Adelaide also announced the creation of a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in the heart of Adelaide.

“Patients will be able to see the doctor after hours without appointment, which will unblock the state’s emergency departments,” he said.
