BROOKLYN, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) this week visited the North Brooklyn Angels’ new facility on Kent Street. The Congresswoman recently submitted a community project funding request for $676,000  to expand the North Brooklyn Angels preparation and distribution of free meals and produce to food-insecure individuals and fund projects including Operation Neighbors Feeding Seniors to provide thousands of meals to homebound seniors.

“It was wonderful to spend time with the incredible volunteers at North Brooklyn Angels,” said Congresswoman Maloney. “I was proud to submit their community project funding request as one of my ten requests. This organization has done incredible work for our community and was indispensable during the pandemic. I look forward to all we can continue to do for the community together.”

Background

The Congresswoman’s funding request to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies for the North Brooklyn Angels would provide funding to replace the organization’s mobile soup kitchen “Angelmobile,” as well as maintenance supplies necessary for mobile food distribution. The funding would also be used for the obtainment and distribution of: bulk produce and food supplies, hot meals, and necessities for young children (i.e. diapers, sanitary & hygiene kits, baby clothing). The funding would also be used to form partnerships with social service professionals to provide referrals for counseling, substance abuse treatment, tenants’ and workers’ rights, affordable housing applications, and jobs.
