Houston’s Greek Festival Comes Back, Everyone’s Dancing Again

Returning a year after the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral’s Greek Festival in Houston was welcomed not just for the food but for the dancing again.

It began a half-century ago and is an annual magnet for the community and people who love Greek food and culture, the affair also a major fundraiser for the congregation, supported by generations of families and fans.

They came back big, said Houstonia Magazine.  “We have been coming for the last twenty years,” said Laura Chapline. “We come every year, it’s our family tradition. It’s so much fun with delicious food and lovely people. It’s just truly a good time.”

They were greeted with traditional music, a gift shop with Greek imported items, live dance performances, and wine at every corner, and, of course, those delicious plates of spanakopita, dolmades, and pastitsio, with desserts from baklava to loukoumades.

“I think my favorite part of the festival is the dancing,” said Pahno Georgeton. “The dancing is really awesome to see because my whole family’s from Greece and so you get to really see a cultural representation of that.”
