Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in Santorini on Friday morning as seismic activity continues to affect the island for another day.
Accompanied by Minister of Civil Protection Vasilis Kikilias, the prime minister first visited the fire service’s mobile operations center before heading to the island’s hospital.
Mitsotakis stated that his visit aimed to assess the state mechanism’s preparedness and urged residents to remain calm.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, but we are not here to make scientific predictions. I want to reassure the residents of Santorini and other islands that the government is by their side. It is always better to be prepared and take preventive measures,” he said.
“I urge everyone to stay calm, follow the instructions of civil protection authorities, and we hope this phenomenon will soon subside so the island can return to normal,” he added.
Seismic tremors in Santorini persisted throughout the night and into Friday. The strongest tremor, measuring 4.8 in magnitude, was recorded shortly after 9 a.m.
