Turkey: Armed Forces ‘pose no threat’ to those who does not threaten country

Turkey does not pose a threat to any country that does not threaten it, a spokesperson of the country’s Defense Ministry said Thursday.

The comment came after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after the conclusion of the NATO summit in Ankara that Turkey’s long-standing casus belli over a possible Greek extension of its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles is “a historical error” that is incompatible with the 2023 Athens Declaration and the positive climate both countries are seeking to build.

He said the threat of war, first declared in 1995, belongs to the past, adding that European leaders understand it has no place within the NATO alliance.

“Our country supports the preservation of peace and stability in our region and the resolution of existing issues through constructive dialogue and good neighborly relations,” spokesperson, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, told journalists at the day’s briefing.

“In this context, we reiterate that avoiding rhetoric that could escalate tensions will positively contribute to bilateral relations, and we remind everyone once again that the Turkish Armed Forces pose no threat to anyone who does not pose a threat to them,” he added.
